Accidental Autobiography Tendencies (AAT®)

This affliction is not to be confused with Fictional Autobiography Tendencies as suffered by the likes of certain authors.  Also, it should not be confused with the Fictional Factual Tendencies of the likes of other writers.

Many fiction writers live in a quasi-delusional world in which autobiography and fiction become intertwingled.  This can harm plot and character development, particularly if the writer is prolific and thus, every protagonist is a horny, disillusioned, secular Jewish boy growing up in Brooklyn. That, or an overweight executive assistant looking for love.

My treatment regime for AAT has helped writers the world over dis-entwingle their own lives, personalities, peccadilloes and penchants for bird watching from their writing to create actual fictional characters and stories.
