All readers appreciate a knowledgeable writer, one who has researched his subject material and his setting thoroughly. Some writers even travel to their book's setting to get a "feel" for its surroundings and where his characters live.

 

However, there is a fine line between the "...gritty streets of urban Detroit, with its pall of hopelessness cast among the faces of passersby," and, "...walking through Dearborn Heights, which is just west of Detroit proper, but east of Redford Charter Township, which is approximately 200 miles south of West Bloomfield Township near Keego Harbor where waterskiing had been banned due to shallow water conditions back in 1992, he passed by the first shop on Lois Street called Lou's Diner, which served the best chicken fried steak that side of the Mississippi due to the secret ingredient of canned milk and Tabasco in its breading, and which employed Alice Becker, a former homemaker forced back into the workforce by the premature death of her husband, Frank, who died in a freak vacuuming accident, he then passed by Tom's Dry Cleaning, established in 1986 by a guy, incidentally not named Tom, but named Nathan Howell, who had once been a college ball player of no consequence, and then he came upon the next shop on Lois Street, a nail salon that had recently expanded into a tanning salon with 5 beds offering Ruva and Ultra Ruva…"

 

Well. You see the point, we hope.
